I hope everyone is surviving Friday the Thirteenth!
This update can be summed up with one word: editing! I have been editing all week and this looks to be dominating my time for the foreseeable future.
If you've never tried to edit your own work that is the length of a novel, it is quite an interesting experience. I have heard many writers say the first draft is done with feeling and heart. The second is done with your head. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but the editing process almost always takes me longer than the first draft. It is a time full of discovery with high and low points ("Wow--this is better than I expected" or "What were you thinking when you wrote this scene?").
My deadline is to turn over my recent novel to beta readers by the time I write another update one week from today. Then, I'll get to Star Runners Four.
On a personal note, I have always loved hiking. I'm not sure I've mentioned it before, but it is one of my favorite things to do. The weather here in Georgia has been flawless, providing a wonderful atmosphere for a stroll in the woods. Today, I went on a relatively short hike of about five miles. I feel better right now than I have in a week, and I think it's because I've been sitting indoors WAY too much. I encourage all of you who are able to get outside and enjoy the weather (before the thermometers are reading one-hundred degrees for weeks at a time). You'll be surprised what a difference it can make.
On my hike, I was listening to an audiobook called "The Emperor's Railroad" by Guy Haley. I haven't finished it, yet, but it captivated me from the very beginning. The story is told with a unique voice in a world continuously revealing more. As anyone who knows me will attest, I never liked cell phones. Somehow they always felt like leashes bosses used to keep tabs on their workers. But the ability to listen to podcasts and audiobooks anywhere is awesome! Growing up in a world of cassette tapes has made me so grateful for this technology--I get to walk/hike/drive and read at the same time!
Wishing you all a very special weekend.
